Riku

Riku is the genius human strategist at the center of No Game No Life: Zero, the emotional prequel that reveals the origins of change in the world of Disboard long before the arrival of Sora and Shiro. He’s the leader of the human resistance during the Great War, and frankly one of the most inspiring underdog protagonists in the entire franchise. He has no supernatural powers. No cheat skills. No divine bloodlines. What he has is raw intelligence, insane resolve and that kind of leadership that makes impossible plans somehow work.

Visually Riku has that classic war-weary hero look that fans love. He has unruly dark hair, piercing eyes, and functional attire suited for a life of survival through strategy and desperation. At first glance, he doesn’t look flashy, but that’s precisely his charm. Riku is the type of husbando that charms you through action, not appearance. He’s cool in a crisis, hard-headed in the best way possible, and always weighed down with the needs of everyone else. His relationship with Shuvi is particularly memorable. He feels so human to me, watching him slowly softening, but still resolute. His quiet strength gives him a ton of fan appeal with a slightly weary but handsome look.

Riku’s fanart tends to be dramatic and emotional in composition. Artists like to give him smoky battlefield backgrounds, glowing chess motifs and that legendary red-eyed intensity from the most memorable scenes of the prequel. He does really well in moody wallpapers, especially when paired with Shuvi or the war torn sky of the Zero timeline. Riku is a background that feels smart, tragic and seriously cool if you want that.
