Fox
In anime and manga character design, the fox is the most culturally significant animal motif. In Japanese Shinto religion and folklore, the fox, or "kitsune," is a youkai (supernatural spirit) known for its intelligence, longevity, and magic. Fox ears (kitsunemimi), a bushy tail, or a traditional fox mask indicate that an anime character is mysterious, playful, magical, and possibly dangerous.
Foxes have two main types in anime. The first is a kind shrine servant associated with Inari, the Shinto farming god. These wise and protective characters usually wear kimonos or miko (shrine maiden) outfits. The second type is the scary "nine-tailed fox" (kyuubi) or playful trickster. Folklore says foxes grow as many as nine tails every hundred years, indicating god-like power. Characters inspired by the kyuubi—most famously Kurama from Naruto—are often depicted as forces of nature, utilizing illusions, shapeshifting, or "fox fire" (kitsunebi) in battle.
Artists like drawing foxes because they look good. Wrapping characters with the huge, fluffy tails creates flowing compositions. Warm autumn colors like amber, gold, crimson, and white make the color schemes striking. Traditional Japanese mythology, elegant character design, and strong supernatural energy make anime fox wallpapers beautiful.
