Midair

A character who can defy gravity is definitely cool. The midair tag captures those split-second moments when feet leave the ground, whether it is a fast-paced battle scene or a calm magical float. It turns a still picture into a moving picture, making it look like the character is about to zoom right out of the frame. In Japanese, this is often called "kuuchuu" (mid-air) or "fuyu" (floating). It can mean anything from superheroes flying to everyday people jumping for joy.

These wallpapers are like a physics playground for the eyes. You can see hair flying around, skirts and coats blowing in the wind, and dynamic foreshortening that makes things look taller and faster. In the background, there are often huge blue skies, cityscapes from above, or magical effects that make the character float. It gives you a feeling of freedom and three-dimensionality that you can not get from portraits taken from the ground.

This theme fits in with almost any type of story. A fantasy mage might hover while casting a spell, a sports anime hero might spike a volleyball at the top of their jump, or a sci-fi pilot might freefall through the atmosphere. A midair illustration is a great choice if you want a desktop background that feels open and full of energy.
