Oshi no Ko

Oshi no Ko opens on a totally bonkers premise involving a doctor and his patient being reincarnated as twins who are born to their celebrity crush, Ai Hoshino. There's clearly a delightful and eccentric premise brewing before it shocks you in a sis-feet-trap with a terrible tragedy that propels the whole thing into a dark psychological thriller about revenge and the harsh truth of the entertainment business. The twins, Aqua and Ruby, find themselves swept up in the entertainment business, but for utterly different reasons. Aqua sets out on a cold, calculated mission to find their dad in the name of revenge, whereas Ruby follows in her mom's footsteps in an almost desperate attempt to fulfill her own personal idol dream. What keeps the series different is its refusal to leave the ugly underbelly of the celebrity world underneath the show’s supernatural revenge thriller, involving things like online bullying, substitution, and bad business dealings.
