Sousou no Frieren
Sousou no Frieren turns the usual fantasy adventure on its head by starting where most stories end: after the heroes have won and the Demon King has been defeated. Frieren is an immortal elf who fought with the famous hero Himmel, but she never really got to know her human friends on a deeper level because she sees time in a completely different way. Then they get older and die, and she feels terrible about all the times she didn't enjoy them. She goes back over their old journey, not looking for treasure or fame, but to figure out what it means to be human and why those memories are so important to her. It moves slowly on purpose, trading epic battles for quiet, reflective times about grief, time, and the bittersweet truth of outliving everyone you love. So beautiful and heartbreaking in the best way.
