Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka?
SukaSuka (WorldEnd) is a heartbreaking and beautiful elegy for a world that is dying. It changes the focus of the fantasy genre from "saving humanity" to "remembering it." Set 500 years after mysterious "Beasts" wiped out all of humanity, the story follows Willem Kmetsch, the last human alive. He wakes up from being petrified to find a civilization of beast-people living on floating islands. He gets a job as a caretaker for a "weapons" warehouse, but when he gets there, he finds out that the weapons are actually young fairy girls (Leprechauns) who will die fighting the Beasts. The series is a masterclass in atmospheric tragedy; it doesn't rely on shock value, but rather on the slow, crushing realization of inevitable loss, juxtaposing the warm, domestic happiness of Willem's makeshift family with the cruel reality that these girls must eventually burn away their own memories and souls to protect a world that has already ended.
