Majo no Tabitabi
Majo no Tabitabi gives us this strange, beautiful, and unsettling episodic journey that is more like a collection of fables than a regular story. Elaina, the amazing "Ashen Witch," was the youngest person to pass the sorcery exam. Now she travels from country to country writing about her experiences, inspired by stories she heard as a child about the famous witch Niké. This series is really divisive because Elaina sticks to being a passive observer. She doesn't play the hero and often sees slavery, abuse, people turning into flowers, and other tragedies without doing anything because she thinks of herself as just a passing traveler. In one well-known scene, she literally flies away after seeing a girl being abused and enslaved, saying, "there is nothing she can do." The series shows how travel can be cruel: you're just a stranger passing through other people's lives, and not every story has a happy ending. It looks at the good and bad sides of the world through the eyes of someone who won't save it.
